The past 8 December, in the church of Santa Maria de Cervera, the re-release of the 17th century historical painting dedicated to the Virgin of the Roser took place.

WEDNESDAY 15 DECEMBER 2021

Its location is fixed in the chapel number four of the ambulatory of Santa Maria, which until now was stripped of only a small image of this Virgin, after suffering the effects of the Civil War.

The origin of this painting was from the well-known church of the convent of Sant Domènec, which together with other equipment remained there after the confiscation of Mendizábal, cap a l’any 1835. It remained in that building until well into the second half of the 20th century, considering that the year 1959 the last religious events were held on the occasion of the feast of St. Dominic, which were the triduum and day of the day 4 d'agost, and later it happened to celebrate the day 8, but no longer religious activities.

A few years later, seeing the significant degradation of the building and the whole enclosure, as well as the economic impossibility of recovering it, being rector of Cervera Mn. Ramon Rota Canal, the sale of the whole set was carried out, passing into private hands, specifically to the Vidal family. That's when the painting was moved to St. Mary's Church, specifically deposited in the church of the Sorrows (currently used by the Coptic community), like other items, without giving it any importance.

L’any 2000, with the major works of Santa Maria and the Chapel of the Sorrows, it was located in the old sacristy of Santa Maria, waiting for a better opportunity to restore it… Finally, l’any 2019, the Generalitat's Movable Property Recovery Center, located in Valldoreix, collected the piece in order to carry out the appropriate restoration.
The painting places the Virgin of the Roser as the protagonist, accompanied on the left by Santo Domingo de Guzmán and on the right by Santo Tomás de Aquino.
now, after two years of work, already shines in the church of Santa Maria de Cervera.
